- Rendering, then usually stabilized with an antioxidant so it does not go rancid in the bag.
- Why it's in the product
- Energy, essential linoleic acid for skin and coat, and palatability. It is the reason dogs will eat a kibble at all.
- Safety and toxicity
- Safe. Watch the preservative in the parentheses instead: mixed tocopherols is vitamin E and fine, BHA is the one we flag.
- Interactions and who should be careful
- High-fat foods are a poor fit for dogs with a pancreatitis history or diagnosed hyperlipidemia. That is about total fat, not chicken fat specifically.
